VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Criminology Peer Mentor Program

In 2022 the La Trobe Law School is launching a new Criminology Peer Mentoring Program that will provide support to new first year students transitioning to university life at La Trobe.
They are now seeking applications from students who are interested in volunteering to be a Criminology Peer Mentor.
Why be a criminology peer mentor:
Gain leadership experience and develop your interpersonal and group facilitation skills – all highly sort after career skills
Build your professional network within the University
Make new friends and meet new people
Boost your CV – receive a written reference and a Mentor Certificate from the Law School
Mentoring can count towards the Emerging Leaders Program and the Career Ready Advantage Award – both are formally recognised on your academic transcript (see links for more information about additional requirements for each)
To be a criminology peer mentor you:
Must have completed the first year of the criminology degree
Have at least one semester of university left to complete
Have a proactive and positive attitude to university life
Be willing to share your experience
What is required of a criminology peer mentor:
Complete one day of mentor training prior to Orientation Week
Attend orientation day and participate in peer mentor welcome sessions
Facilitate weekly group mentor sessions (face-to-face or online) during semester for your assigned mentees (each mentor will be assigned first year mentees to mentor – maximum of 4 -5)
Provide tips and advice to new students to assist with their transition to university life
