Learning Support @ La Trobe

La Trobe provides study support services primarily through The Learning Hub, including academic English, writing, study skills and various other study supports. These are all accessible via The Learning Hub LMS page here.

Who can I talk to?

At The Learning Hub, you can drop-in to see a Peer Learning Advisor (PLA) or book an appointment with an academic advisor or librarian.

PLAs are high performing students who can help you with your assignments or general study. PLAs are selected from a wide range of disciplines, including education, health science, law and criminology, biomedicine and nursing – just to name a few. You can talk to a PLA about planning and writing, referencing or presenting an assignment, for example. PLAs cannot, however, proof-read an entire assignment, or write anything for you.

The PLAs run a drop-in service, Monday-Friday from 11.30-2.30pm and 4-6pm AEST during semester. PLAs will be providing face-to-face and Zoom consultations in Semester 2.

You can access the Zoom drop-in link here, and keep an eye out on The Learning Hub LMS for details on how to access face-to-face consults on campus.

Academic advisors are expert staff available to help you develop your academic writing, study skills, and academic English skills. There are various staff available to help you, and you can book an appointment to see them here. You can also chat to a librarian if you are struggling to find sources for an assignment, or referencing-specific help, via the online chat here.

What else does The Learning Hub do?

The Learning Hub often runs workshops throughout the semester. The How2Uni workshop series includes sessions on topics including writing essays and reports, exam strategies, plagiarism and referencing. The series ran in Semester 1 2021, and you can find the recordings of those sessions here. Keep an eye out on The Learning Hub’s LMS page for upcoming workshops, or drop-in to ask a PLA when the next sessions are coming up.

The Learning Hub also provides more discipline specific support in smaller hubs, like the Maths, Science and Coding hubs. These hubs provide drop-in and scheduled sessions, which you can find in their respective tiles on The Learning Hub LMS page.

On The Learning Hub website, there are various other resources to assist you in your studies. For instance, the Achieve@Uni guides cover various academic skills needed at university, including writing, reading, language and referencing.

La Trobe provides all students with access to Studiosity – an online writing feedback service. You can submit an assignment to Studiosity and receive feedback from a tutor on your writing within 24 hours. You can only use Studiosity 5 times per semester – so use it wisely!

Make sure to utilise The Learning Hub’s various services throughout the semester to develop your study skills and do the best you can in your studies!
